Building for Change From the Ground Up

Growing up I liked crafting. When I was in elementary, I made rubber band gun out of wood chopsticks and rubber bands that me and my friends would shoots each other. I love building my plastic model figures (which usually require some glue and pieces in its moulds), but I never had to build or make something that I needed in practical sense. I feel like we tend to get creative with what we have to meet our needs at time instead of crafting the object we need (like using bowl instead of mug but not doing pottery).

I am all for having small gardens in school grounds and such because learning about life and witnessing their growth can be a great experience. Also, you can grow some exotic things you cannot usually find in a market.

Backsourcing is interesting idea. It is very relevant because the purpose of backsourcing is to learn crafting something that you are in need of. Also, by doing so you get to learn about the nature of the materials that are being used and how to use them as well as the confidence that was mentioned in the reading. On the other hand you could say it is inefficient because it is always more efficient to mass produce in a factory and to learn a skill that you may use once in few years might be considered waste of time.

Personally speaking, I am a big fan of the idea, because I see value in hands on experience and connecting to the environment we are in, but on the other hand I fear that this could just turn into a exercise of muscle memory.
